Jul '03 - Feb '04, Self-Employed Programmer & Web Designer I have been designing and developing sites for the web for many years and decided to take some time and investigate the world of self-employment. It has been great to experience the difference in the nature of challenges encountered while working for yourself. This time has also offered me an opportunity to reacquaint myself with ASP, become familiar with SQL Server, as well as to start looking into the emerging Microsoft .NET world.

Jun '01 - Jun '03, BCE Emergis, Programmer/Analyst This position began with some Business Analyst type work, followed by the maintenance of a legacy VB application on an Oracle back-end. It continued with a Java rewrite (analysis/design/development) of a day-end process on an Oracle back-end in a team environment. This day-end process was responsible for paying health claims for several major Canadian insurance companies. My Java, J2EE, Struts, Oracle, and PL/SQL skills were strengthened by this position. In addition, constant interaction with the customer has afforded me with an understanding that good communication skills are indispensable in maximizing productivity.

May '00 - Dec '00, Nortel Networks, Software Verification and Validation Development and execution of a test plan for Meridian MAX 10 (M1 switch) was my primary objective in this team-based position. The MAX 10 software was responsible for both real-time monitoring and reporting on telephone call centers. Daily interaction with software designers also strengthened my understanding and appreciation for software engineering, testing, and the PRS Process.
